About

For decades, Umesh V. Vazirani has been a leading light of theoretical computer science---and not only of quantum computing theory, which he helped found and continues to guide. A beloved teacher, thinker, sage, and squash partner, he's inspired his hundreds of students, mentees, and colleagues by exhorting them always, always to focus on the high-order bits. Now, on the occasion of Umesh's (2^6)th birthday, we attempt to return the favor by roasting Umesh, and by giving talks on the many areas of both quantum and classical computing that his work has touched.  If you've never attended an UmeshFest, you're spending too much time not at UmeshFests!

This workshop will begin with a late-afternoon reception on Friday, April 26, followed by two days of talks on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.

Please note: the Simons Institute regularly captures photos and video of activity around the Institute for use in videos, publications, and promotional materials.
