Abstract
We will introduce the basic principles of cryptocurrencies by explaining how Bitcoin works on a high level. We will then look at how to reduce wasting resources (proof of stake), and how to improve privacy (Monero, Zcash), expressiveness (Ethereum), and scalability (Mimblewimble).
