Abstract
I will give a crash course on distributed consensus. I will describe a few simple and elegant results (upper bounds and lower bounds) that form the foundation of distributed consensus, narrated from a modern perspective when appropriate. I will also give a brief narrative on how the field has evolved, from classical byzantine agreement to the modern blockchain, setting up context for the other tutorials of this bootcamp.
