Tommaso Nesti
Tommaso Nesti is a PhD student in mathematics in the Stochastic group at Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), Amsterdam, under the superivsion of Bert Zwart. He holds bachelors and masters degrees cum laude in mathematics from the University of Pisa, Italy. During his undergraduate years, he was introduced to a wide range of mathematical fields, which he narrowed down to Probability Theory, Optimization and Numerical Analysis as main topics for his masters degree. Nesti focuses on probability theory applied to energy systems under uncertainty. He uses large deviations theory in order to estimate rare events probabilities, such as the probability of a temperature overload in a power grid relying on solar and wind power. The goal is to develop tools that will help to monitor, optimize and ensure reliability of future power grids.
