Tamer Başar
Tamer Başar received his BSEE from Robert College (Istanbul), and MS, MPhil, and PhD in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale. After stints at Harvard and Marmara Research Institute (Turkey), he joined the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1981, where he is currently Swanlund Endowed Chair Emeritus and Center for Advanced Study (CAS) Professor Emeritus of ECE, with affiliations with the Coordinated Science Laboratory and the Information Trust Institute. At UIUC, he also served as Director of CAS (2014-2020), Interim Dean of Engineering (2018), and Interim Director of the Beckman Institute (2008-2010). Currently, he is also the Executive Director of Illinois at Singapore Pte. Ltd., Advanced Digital Sciences Center. He has published extensively in systems, control, communications, networks, and dynamic games, including several books. He is a member of NAE, Fellow of IEEE, SIAM, and IFAC, and recipient of several awards and recognitions, including Medal of Science of Turkey (1993), Quazza Medal (2005), Bellman Award (2006), Isaacs Award (2010), IEEE Control Systems Award (2014), Wilbur Cross Medal (2021), and a number of honorary doctorates and professorships.
