Nanyun (Violet) Peng

Violet Peng is an Associate Professor at the Computer Science Department of University of California, Los Angeles, and a Visiting Academics at the Amazon AGI org. Violet directs the PLUSLAB (Peng's Language Understanding and Synthesis Lab) at UCLA, with the vision to develop robust Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to lower communication barriers and make AI agents true companions for humans. Her works have won multiple Paper Awards including Outstanding Paper Awards at NAACL 2022 and EMNLP 2024, Best Paper Awards at AAAI and EMNLP workshops. Her research have been recognized by the NSF CAREER Award, IJCAI 2022 early career spotlight, and several industrial research awards including Google Research Scholar Award and Okawa foundation research grant.
Violet got her PhD in Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University, Center for Language and Speech Processing, after that, she spent three years at University of Southern California as a Research Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department, and a Research Lead at the Information Sciences Institute.
