Matthew Jacobs

Matt Jacobs will be joining the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University as a new tenure-track assistant professor in January 2022. Before arriving at the Simon's Institute, Matt was an assistant adjunct professor at UCLA (2017-2021).

Matt's research interests lie at the intersection of the calculus of variations, partial differential equations, and numerical optimization. He specializes in using variational techniques to study PDEs that arise from physical and data science. Matt enjoys straddling the fence between pure and applied math, both proving theoretical results and developing efficient numerical algorithms.
