Julia Wolf
Professor, University of Bristol
Julia obtained her B.A. and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Cambridge. She subsequently spent three years in the United States, with postdoctoral fellowships at Princeton and Berkeley and an assistant professorship at Rutgers University. Between 2010 and 2013, she held a Hadamard Associate Professorship at École Polytechnique in Paris, before taking up a readership at the University of Bristol. She is also currently the Associate Chair of the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research. Her research focuses on arithmetic structures in dense sets of integers, and combines Fourier analytic, combinatorial and probabilistic methods. It is part of a thriving area called arithmetic combinatorics, a subject that includes many beautiful results, such as the Green-Tao theorem on long arithmetic progressions in the primes. It has close connections with parts of ergodic theory and theoretical computer science.
