Joerg Liesen is a Professor of Mathematics at TU Berlin, specializing in numerical linear algebra, matrix theory, and computational methods of complex analysis. He obtained his PhD from Universitaet Bielefeld under the supervision of Ludwig Elsner, earning him the Householder Award in 1999. After postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he led a DFG-funded Emmy Noether Junior Research Group at TU Berlin, before becoming a Heisenberg Fellow and later a Heisenberg Professor. Since 2012, he has been a full professor at TU Berlin. He has published extensively in his areas of research, including a widely known monograph about Krylov Subspace Methods (with Zdenek Strakos). He is also passionate about innovative methods of teaching and has published on the history of mathematics.
