Jeffrey Phillips

Jeff M. Phillips is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing at the University of Utah. He works on algorithms for big data analytics and geometric data analysis–which is the intersection of algorithms, data science, computational geometry, data mining, and statistics. He is particularly interested in coresets and sketches, spatial data analysis, and managing uncertainty in data. His work is supported by a NSF CAREER Award and several other grants from the NSF. He was also a NSF CI Postdoctoral Fellow. Prior to that, he was a NSF Graduate Research Fellow while earning his PhD in Computer Science at Duke University. He earned a BS in Computer Science and BA in Mathematics from Rice University. At the University of Utah, he also serves as the Director of the Data Management and Analysis track, where he oversees educational programs related to computational aspects of data science.
