Hongbin Liu

Hongbin Liu is a Principal Architect and Engineering Manager at Microsoft Azure Quantum. He leads Microsoft’s effort of building practical quantum applications, i.e., accelerating scientific discovery by using computations. He and his team built and published Microsoft’s platform for computational chemistry and material sciences, Azure Quantum Elements. As a chemist by training, he is driving innovations with modern and future computer architectures to help address a wide variety of chemistry problems, from catalysis to photovoltaic. His research interests range from developing novel classical electronic structure methods, improving quantum algorithms for chemistry simulations, to building hybrid classical-quantum computational chemistry solutions. He sits on the National Academy of Sciences committee for the consensus study of “Identifying Opportunities at the Interface of Chemistry and Quantum Information Science“.
