Christopher O'Neill
Christopher O’Neill is an early career researcher whose work focuses on sensor measurement, bodily techniques, and media philosophy. He received his PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2020. Dr O’Neill currently works as a postdoctoral research fellow at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, where he researches the philosophy and cultural politics of automation as a member of the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision Making & Society. He has a particular interest in the study of facial recognition and the problematic of the ‘human in the loop’ in automated systems.
Dr O’Neill has published in many of the leading journals in media studies and science and technology studies, including New Media & Society, Information, Communication & Society, Science, Technology & Human Values, and First Monday. He currently leads a research team studying the development of automation in e-commerce warehousing in Melbourne and Sydney, with a focus on the consequences of automation on the working life of warehouse workers.
