Carl Miller

Carl Miller is a research fellow in the Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Department at University of Michigan. His primary research is on the theory of quantum computation and communication. Specific topics of interest include quantum self-testing, device-independent random number generation, and entanglement-assisted communication. Miller's background is in mathematics.  He was a member of the American team at the International Math Olympiad in 1996. Carl studied algebraic geometry as a graduate student at Berkeley, and received a PhD in 2007 (under Arthur Ogus) for a dissertation on sheaf theory in characteristic p.  From 2007 to 2010 he was a postdoc in the University of Michigan Mathematics Department, and his research migrated into the area of quantum information theory.  Since 2010, he has been working with Yaoyun Shi in the University of Michigan Computer Science Department.
