Simons Institute Joins Google DeepMind x Google.org AI for Math Initiative
The Simons Institute has received $250K in support from the Google DeepMind x Google.org AI for Math Initiative, which was launched in late October. The Simons Institute will be a member of the newly created consortium, along with Imperial College London, the Institute for Advanced Study, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES), and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).
With support from this initiative, researchers at these institutions will work toward the shared goals of identifying the next generation of mathematical problems ripe for AI-driven insights and fostering the most effective modes of human-AI collaborations to accelerate the pace of discovery in mathematical disciplines.
Simons Institute Director Venkatesan Guruswami remarks, “It is a hugely exciting time to explore how the extraordinary new generation of AI tools — already achieving results far beyond expectations — can partner with researchers and enhance and possibly revolutionize research on the foundations of computing and related mathematics. This challenge also offers a unique opportunity for industry and academia to work together to engineer AI tools that are better at the kind of longer-term, open-ended exploration necessary for innovative research and progress on long-standing problems.”
We look forward to updating you on our activities related to this initiative in the months to come.
